Eugene, Ore. -- World AIDS Day was established in 1988 to provide an opportunity to raise awareness and focus attention on the global AIDS epidemic. Since the onset of AIDS, more than 25 million people have died of AIDS-related causes, making it one of the most destructive epidemics in recorded history.
