MEDFORD, Ore. -- The Medford City Council struck down an appeal Thursday seeking to block the building of a Walmart Supercenter at the former location of Miles Field in South Medford.

The appeal was brought by Medford Citizens for Responsible Development. The group is concerned about potential traffic problems the proposed 176,000 square foot supercenter will create. MCRD argued the Site Plan Architectural Commission and the city of Medford erred in failing to require a traffic study before the project was allowed to move forward. However, their appeal was rejected by a 5-1 vote.

MCRD says it plans to appeal the ruling to the Land Use Board of Appeals.
