Bicyclist Hit by Drunk Driver

A Bend man is arrested for drunk driving after hitting a bicyclist Thursday night. 
 
On 09-18-08 at 2356 hours, Officers with the Bend Police Department responded to a possible motor vehicle crash.  Officers arrived in the area of Skyliners Road near Mt. Washington Drive and found the victim, 23 year old Wiley Joseph Brown of Bend, on the roadway with serious injuries.  During the initial investigation it was found that 52-year old Clayton Bailey was operating his 1998 Toyota Corolla when it collided into a bicycle being operated by Wiley Brown.  Officers, in cooperation with the Bend Fire Department, were able to give Brown aid prior to him being transported to St. Charles Medical Center. 
 
The initial investigation revealed that Bailey collided with Brown's bicycle, causing the injury.  Officers arrested Bailey for being under the influence of alcohol, was found to be at fault for the accident and lodged at the Deschutes County Jail for Assault II, Reckless Driving, Recklessly Endangering and DUII.
 
A Traffic Crash Reconstruction expert from the Bend Police Department responded to the scene and assisted in this investigation.  The reconstruction investigation is ongoing at this time.
