    Eugene City Council Supports Vehicle Fee

    The city of Eugene is sending the vehicle registration fee discussion to the ballot. Monday night the city council took up the issue. By an 8 to 0 vote, the council approved supporting the referral of a $35 fee to the ballot.

    The Eugene Police Department says a woman died after being struck by a train Monday night in Eugene as she was trying to retrieve her dog who ran across the railroad tracks. Police say this happened at about 10 p.m.

    It's official--there will be a recount for Measure 92, the labeling of genetically engineered foods. According to the latest numbers, it failed by 809 votes. That's within the threshold of an automatic recount. A hand tally of ballots is likely to start next week.

    A lawsuit was filed in Eugene federal court Tuesday, challenging the Coast Guard's decision to close the Newport's air station on Dec. 15. Newport Fishermen's Wives, the City of Newport, Lincoln County, and the Port of Newport are all filing the lawsuit.

St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch made the announcement Monday night.
