EUGENE, Ore.--- Show dogs from all over the region pranced around the Lane County Livestock Arena trying to prove they're the best in show. But of the 130 dogs on display the Gold Cup went to an Irish Settler named "Thomas" from Corvallis.
Scoring that top spot means the winner's owners can make a pretty penny when it comes time to breed their dog for new puppies. Dogs are separated into seven categories based on their breed.
If you've ever wondered why the owners run with the dogs? It's to show off the dogs grace and agility.
"To make sure that the judge sees the dog in their natural gait. So walking they don't get to see how well the dogs move especially for herding dogs, they need to move well running and so the judge needs to see them running," says Scott Ogle, International Dog Show Manager.
