Drug Arrests Made in University Area

By Dan Corcoran

EUGENE, Ore. -- Eugene narcotics detectives moved in on drug offenders in two University of Oregon area neighborhoods Tuesday.

The arrests come after complaints about drug sales among UO students. Police say there were several complaints that came in about drug sales, particularly the sale of Ecstasy and marijuana, in the residential areas surrounding the UO.

First, vice narcotics unit detectives arrested 22-year-old Hannah Shantel Jones at a home in the 2200 block of Kinkaid Street. Police served a search warrant and found enough evidence to charge Jones with unlawful manufacturing, possession and delivery of Ecstasy and pot, as well as possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms.

While police were serving that warrant, they say 19-year-old James Bolotin showed up to buy drugs from Jones. Other residents say the busts don't reflect their neighborhood.

"It's a great neighborhood and something like this certainly wouldn't change my feeling about it. I don't have a knee jerk reaction about it. I think it could happen anywhere," said Jane Vogel.

A search warrant was served somewhere else that night a few blocks away on Riverview Street.

Police arrested 19-year-old Alexander Taylor and 19-year-old Zepher Sky Glass each on multiple drug charges. Both Taylor and Glass were booked at the Lane County Jail.

Hannah Jones and James Bolotin were released at the scene pending consideration by the District Attorney's office on those multiple drug charges.
