EUGENE, Ore. -- The HIV Alliance of Eugene and the ASUO Women's Center will offer free HIV testing and counseling March 10 as a part of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.
Free swab tests will be given to the first 25 women who come into the ASUO Women's Center in the Erb Memorial Union at the University of Oregon between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. The tests are Oraquick Rapid Tests and take about 20 minutes, and require only a saliva swab (no blood). Free counseling will also be offered.
Women represented 26% of new cases of HIV in 2005 as compared to 11% in 1990. The HIV Alliance and the ASUO Women's Center offer free services so that women and girls are empowered to be aware of this issue.
