
Roseburg, Ore. -- The Phoenix Charter School was selected as the 2010 Oregon Charter School of the Year out of more than 100 charter schools in the categories of Elementary and Secondary School. The honorary title was announced at the Annual Charter School Conference last Friday.
In a recent press release, the Phoenix Charter School expressed gratitude for the award and the opportunities that the school offers to Douglas County grades 8-12 students.
Some of the school's many achievements over the past year include its 95.5% graduation rate that was categorzied as outstanding on their state report card, as well as the at-risk students achieving a satisfactory rating on the state report card.
This year, Phoenix Charter students are expected to put in approximately 24,600 hours of work on public lands in partnership with the Roseburg District Bureau of Land Management and the U.S. Forest Service, North Umpqua Ranger District. Activities include habitat restoration, restoring camp grounds, reducing fire danger and improving forest health, and removing invasive and noxious plants.
