CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Budget shortfalls are happening at schools around Oregon, and in Corvallis that may mean changes to kindergarten programs. Now, parents may have to make some big adjustments to their schedules.
The Corvallis School Board says they are making some tough decisions concerning kindergarten programs. More budget falls might mean less class time. But Corvallis families who rely on all-day kindargarden may have some adjusting to do soon.
The district currently faces a $2 million shortfall. For the last few years, the school district has been offering scholarships for parents who can't afford the kintergarten program. But with more parents qualifying for the scholarhips, the fund has ultimately been drained.
It's a decision no one in the district is happy about. However, Corvallis Superintendent Dawn Tarzanian says they are trying to discuss options such as daycare in the afternoon. She says no final decision has been made yet regarding changes to the program.
