UPDATE: Coos Bay Woman Dies in Fatal Traffic Crash West of Drain

DRAIN, Ore. -- A Coos Bay woman is dead after a vehicle crash sent her car into a creek along Highway 38, west of Drain.

The driver is identified as Darcie Ayres Kroh, age 32. Officials say she was using a shoulder safety belt but not the lap safety restraint belt at the time.

Oregon State Police, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, ODOT, and local emergency responders including a dive team confirmed her dead on scene Monday afternoon when they found her car partially submerged in Elk Creek on the south side of Highway 38. Kroh was the only one inside.

Preliminary investigation by state troopers states the car driven by Kroh was going eastbound when it drove off onto the right shoulder, traveling about 150 feet before partially striking a power pole. The car then traveled down the embankment and flipped onto its top in the creek.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
