Key Bank Robber Sentenced to 57 Months in Prison

By Brian Schiedel

EUGENE, Ore. -- A man who confessed to robbing a Key Bank late last year will spend nearly five years in prison as a result.

Anthony Phillipe Valenzuela, 49, was sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for the robbery committed on December 12, 2008.  Valenzuela entered the bank on West 11th and handed the teller a note that stated, "This is a robbery!!  Don't include the dye pack or bait money."  The teller placed $620 in an envelope and handed it to Valenzuela, who left the bank.

Less than one week later, Valenzuela called the Boise County dispatch while in a motel room in Boise, Idaho, confessing that he had committed the robbery.  A search of his hotel room by the FBI revealed hotel and bus receipts placing Valenzuela in Eugene during the time of the robbery.

Valenzuela has prior convictions for weapons offenses and assault.
