Disadvantaged Children Get Head Start At Life

By Paris Jackson

Eugene, Ore--For disadvantaged children research shows early childhood education improves a child's cognitive and language development.

Head Start of Lane County serves low-income children and their families everyday.

HSOLC is shaping the lives of more than 1, 000--- 3 to 5 year olds.

Part of it's mission, to ensure each child has a strong foundation.

Experts say the early years in a child's life are critical to healthy development and a child's ability to learn.

The curriculum is specially designed for each child and their needs. Yet, children aren't the only ones learning in the classroom, parents are too.

Managers say each head start site is also deeply rooted in their communities and many volunteers are in those neighborhoods.
