Concerns over Riverfront Development Proposals

By Heather Hintze

EUGENE, Ore. -- Some University of Oregon students and staff are concerned about possible development on the UO Research Park property, and on Thursday evening, they're inviting people to a public forum to discuss the situation.

Forum organizers say the research park's conditional use permit expired last month. If it's renewed, they say, there are immediate plans to construct a parking lot and private office building on the empty property next to EWEB. Organizers say they're opposed to development north of the railroad, especially a parking lot.

The public forum runs from 7 pm to 9 pm on Thursday at Saint Mary's Catholic Church at 11th and Charnelton. You can make public comments until 5 pm tomorrow before the city decides on the conditional use permit.
