Reward Offered in Eugene Substation Break-in, Fire

EUGENE, Ore. -- The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) is offering a reward in connection with a break-in and a fire that caused extensive equipment damage at a Eugene substation.

BPA is offering up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

BPA's district manager says, "The fire caused hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage, a cost that ultimately will be paid by electricity consumers."

No customers lost power during the fire. Investigators suspect the intruder gained access to the substation through a hole in the perimeter fence and fled when the fire started. Damage is estimated between $500,000 and $750,000.

Anyone with information should call BPA's confidential and toll-free Crime Witness Hotline at 800-437-2744 or local law enforcement.
