Drinking Water Warning Issued for Cottage Grove

COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. -- The City of Cottage Grove has issued a drinking water warning for the next 24 hours. Residents will need to boil their water before drinking it.

Officials found out Tuesday that non-chlorinated water from the Row River Water District entered the city's system. A power outage and failure of a back-up generator at the Row River Valley Water District filtration plant caused a temporary malfunction of the chlorination system. The water was filtered but not chlorinated for approximately a four-hour period.

Officials say this water could carry organisms capable of causing people to get sick. So, city officials say the drinking water in the northeast portion of town must be boiled.

The warning affects the northeast portion the city's water system. This includes areas east of North 16th Street, Gateway Blvd. between Main Street and Cottage Grove Connector, areas northeast of the Freeway the Row River Road, Whiteaker and Middlefield areas.

Drinking water will be restricted at only Dorena School for the next 24 hours. The water system is safe for drinking at all other South Lane Schools.
