Exam Approved for Brownsville Murder Defendant

ALBANY, Ore. -- A Linn County judge granted a psychiatric evaluation on Monday for a Brownsville man accused of stabbing his mother to death last month.

The examination will determine whether Josh Lee Shaddon is competent to stand trial.

The 31-year-old is being held in the Linn County Jail while he waits for the exam. Shaddon is charged in the Oct. 23 death of Gerlene Thorne. The woman was found dead at the foot of the stairs in a house she shared with her husband and son.
