Wind and Rain Causes Widespread Outages for EPUD Customers

LANE COUNTY, Ore. -- Strong wind and rains caused widespread outages for Emerald People's Utility District (EPUD) customers Monday night.

The first outage calls began around 8 p.m. from the Cottage Grove and Junction City areas. Soon after, there were scattered outages in Coburg, Eugene, Creswell, Fall Creek, Dexter, Pleasant Hill and Marcola.

Line and tree crews worked through the night to restore power to approximately 1,200 customers that were affected. As of Tuesday, 10 EPUD customers are still without power.

EPUD recommends people to have candles, matches, a flashlight and a battery-powered radio with fresh batteries in an easily accessible place.

In the event of a power outage, EPUD advises customers to first check their fuses and circuit breaker, and then call EPUD if that is not the source of the problem at 541-746-1583 or 1-800-422-4086.
