CORVALLIS, Ore. -- High-wind warnings are in effect for all day and night Monday, as well as on Tuesday, according to Benton County Emergency Management, Search & Rescue. Experts forecast the "strongest windstorm since December 2007" to arrive Monday throughout the day and night.
The National Weather Service expects winds to be strongest along the coast and headlands, especially Monday evening from 8 p.m. to midnight, blowing from the south-west. Heavy rain is also expected with this storm, 2-4 inches, mainly along the Coast/Coast Range and WIllapa Hills where flood watches are also in effect. The SW Washington and NW Oregon areas will have the higest rain potential.
Another potential windstorm is forecast for November 18th through the 20th, and it looks comparable to the one that will be arriving today.
According to officials, a "high-wind warning" means a hazardous high-wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.
Officials remind everyone in the way of the wind and storm to:
· Be alert for road debris and slippery surfaces from fallen and falling debris in the form of tree branches and accumulated leaves.
· Keep culverts and drainages clear of leaves and debris to enable optimal runoff of rain and to avoid localized flooding problems.
· Secure loose outdoor furniture to prevent damage.
· Check road and weather conditions before you travel.
· Always have an emergency vehicle kit in every vehicle.
