Eugene Taser Incident Report Released

By Dan Corcoran

EUGENE, Ore. -- The Chinese student who was tased by a Eugene police officer in September was sitting on the floor when the officer shot him with the device, according to one officer's report.

The report states that Officer Judd Warden deployed the taser on the student after an altercation. His partner, Officer Barnes, was downstairs with the other occupant of the apartment.

In Barnes' report, he says he went upstairs, and saw Warden stand up, the student sitting against a wall. He says as Warden stood up, he deployed his taser into the man's chest.

Warden's report though says he had fallen to the ground, and that the student was coming at him, and that he couldn't see the student's right hand which was covered by a blanket. He says he told him to get back then stood up and shot him with the taser when he wouldn't comply.

Warden had already come under fire for using a taser on ian van ornum at a pesticide rally in may. Van Ornum, also a UO student, was convicted of disorderly conduct, and Warden was cleared by the police department of any wrongdoing.

Tasercam and information details

The police report says there is a Tasercam video of the 9-22-09 incident. Why not get the video and show it to the public ASAP ? All the information about the new case should have been released before the 10-1-09 discussion and vote by the CRB on the closely related Van Ornum case. www.youtube.com/luddite333
