UO Community Honors Local Veterans

By Dan Corcoran

EUGENE, Ore. -- Local veterans were honored Wednesday at the EMU Ballroom at the University of Oregon campus, celebrating those who serve now and who serve in the past.

Oregon students, alumni and campus leaders joined the veterans in the ceremony. The event featured speakers, including UO President Richard Lariviere. Stories were shared about why people choose to serve.

Following the official ceremony was the honoring of Ralph Amato, who was a stand-out baseball player for the Ducks, as well as an army officer and prisoner of war in World War 2.
