EUGENE, Ore. -- Enrollment at every school in the Oregon University System is up, including the University of Oregon and Oregon State.
Despite cutting 500 students from this year's freshman class, the University of Oregon is still seeing record numbers. The Vice Provost says one reason for the increase is the retention of students, as well as more international and graduate students.
While some might think enrollment is up because more people are heading back to school due to the tough economy, the Vice Provost says that only plays a small factor.
Overall, enrollment in the Oregon University System increased by 5.8 percent to more than 91,500 students. Oregon State University's enrollment increased more than 8 percent to nearly 22,000 students. The University of Oregon's enrollment increased by 4.1 percent to 22,300 students.
The programs that have seen the biggest enrollment increase in the past ten years include pharmacy, which has seen a 360 percent increase in the last decade, and veterinary medicine.
