By Sabina Rosu-Urdes

SWEET HOME, Ore. --What started as a traffic stop for a Sweet Home man ended with an arrest, after police discovered the man had outstanding warrants and carried suspicious weapons in the car.

The incident happened on October 28, 2009, when the suspect, Justin Edward Egner, 34, from Sweet Home, was driving recklessly at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. An Oregon State Police officer pulled Egner on Interstate 5 near milepost 266. When the officer also noted a rifle tucked between the front passenger seat and the center console, he requested additional OSP assistance.  Egner was subsequently arrested without incident and later lodged in Marion County Jail.

An investigation revealed inside the Egner's 2003 Chevrolet Silverado were ten firearms, including three loaded handguns, and several guns that were confirmed stolen.  Troopers also reported finding small amounts of cocaine, amphetamines, marijuana, over $7800.00 in cash, other evidence, and miscellaneous stolen property.

A search warrant at Egner's Sweet Home residence also revealed 25 additional firearms, including several more stolen guns, and additional stolen property, including a gun safe, cocaine, and over 1.5 pounds of marijuana.

Egner was transferred to Linn County jail on his outstanding warrants and also charged with Possession of Controlled Substances, Theft by Receiving, Reckless Driving, Driving While Suspended, Exceeding the Speed Limit, and Driving Uninsured.

Additional charges are pending.
