Styrofoam Recycling Now Available In Eugene

By Heather Hintze

EUGENE, Ore. -- Recycling those styrofoam packing peanuts just got easier thanks to a new program run by St. Vincent de Paul. It will keep the non-biodegradable material out of the landfill.

Tipping fees from the landfill provided enough funding for St. Vincents to get a polystyrene compactor. It takes five large bags of styrofoam to make just one solid block. That block can be processed into a gallon of crude sweet oil.

For the next month, anyone can drop off their styrofoam products for free. St. Vincent's hopes to take in and process 10 tons in the next 30 days.

For more information, call St. Vincent de Paul at 541-687-5820.
