2009 Great Rotary Duck Race Ceremony

By Brandi Smith

EUGENE, Ore. -- Five local agencies working to combat and prevent child abuse in Lane County got their checks on Tuesday from the 2009 Great Rotary Duck Race presented by First Tech Credit Union.

This was the second-highest grossing year since the event started 22 years ago.

At Tuesday's award luncheon, Rotarians also got to hear from a Rotary International trustee from Ghana about the impact their efforts have on children.

Along with the check presentations, this year's Mama Duck, Mary Ellen Riley, handed off Top-Duck duties to next year's Papa Duck Gary Maxwell.
