OSU Fraternity to Pay Homeless Man for Shooting

By Sabina Rosu-Urdes

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- The Oregon State University fraternity whose member shot a homeless man back in 2006 will be responsible for paying damages to the victim. This verdict comes after fraternity member Joshua Grimes pleaded guilty to assault and unlawful use of weapon charges in 2007 for shooting Dennis Sanderson with a .22 caliber riffle.

The shooting took place in an alley behind the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity in Corvallis in 2006, where Sanderson was looking through a trash container. Grimes shot Sanderson, but claimed he had aimed at the container.

Now the jury has awarded about $41,000 in damages to the homeless man and said the frat and Grimes are responsible for the damages.
