Crimestoppers: Theft from an Unlikely Place

By Holly Menino

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- On the morning of Saturday, October 17th, a series of thefts took place at the Springfield Lutheran Church. In all, three women's bags were reported missing from the church in the span of an hour.

Springfield police say the suspect took the stolen cards and went on a shopping spree down Olympic Street, racking up hundreds of dollars in charges on the credit cards at stores like Patty's, Jerry's Home Improvement Center and Wal-Mart. The three victims quickly canceled their cards.

Church pastor Erik Post is taking new precautions to safeguard the building, including someone monitoring the door if a group is in a meeting. Post is also planning on replacing the doors at their entrances, add a buzzer and a locking mechanism.

If you recognize the man pictured in the surveillance videos, call the Crimestoppers line at 1-800-3-DETECT. You could earn up to a $1,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.
