Sutherlin Woman Hit by Taser

By Lindsey Doi

SUTHERLIN, Ore. -- A woman who fell and hit her head after being stunned by a Sutherlin police officer's taser is in critical condition at a Portland hospital.

Sutherlin police say officers responded Tuesday night to what first appeared to be a medical call after the injured woman's daughter reported that her mother was covered in blood. When officers arrived, they found the mother, 36-year-old Erica Price, and her live-in boyfriend, 36-year-old Robert Fulton, involved in a domestic dispute.

According to police, Officer Jay Huskey used the taser after Price failed to comply with the officers commands and made an aggressive move toward him.

The Sutherlin Police Department has asked an outside agency to conduct an independent review of the incident.

tasers

Wwith the problems in Eugene and now Sutherlin with the taser use by police, I think that the police need to stop using them until they can be retrained on the proper and appropriate use of them. They seem to be using them inappropriately or in retalliation for what they consider disrespect of their orders, instead of for real life-threatening situations. In all cases the person they tasered was unarmed and in this case an already injured women....I am beginning to think that they are just enjoying being able to torture people. Maybe the police need to go back to just having guns so that they really have to consider the consequences of using deadly force. Because they aren't getting it that this taser is also a dangerous weapon.

Taser Incident

When a police officer feels threatened by blood it does not mean they have to use a taser. This woman is 4 feet 11inches tall and weighs about 120 pounds. She was shot with enough juice to take down a guy 6'4" and 225 lbs. That is quite a difference. The reason I know this is she is the mother of my 3 grandchildren and the grandmother of a little baby girl that sure misses her Nana. What did not come out of this mess is the fact that she was acting weird and had been in a fight with someone other than her boyfriend. He looked all over town for her along with 2 of her children. They found her bloody walking down the street. She has woke up from the coma, but she is confused on some things, but she said 2 women and a guy beat her up. I do hope the police look into this. That is the least they can do since they almost killed her.Her 10 year old son will never forget that sound as long as he lives and of her screaming before she hit her head on the floor, the crunching really got to him. I would like to see that officer get the same dose he gave her and see how he feels afterwards. Of course someone would hold him up so he wouldn't get hurt like she did. This was not needed at all by her or her family. These kids will never be the same.
