Mexican Artist Creates Mural with Springfield Students

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. --Mexican artist, architect, painter, sculptor and ceramist Javier de Jesús Herdández, also known as Capelo, will work with fourteen students to create a mural at Hamlin Middle School.

This will be Capelo's second mural in Springfield. In 2004, he worked with students to create a the mural at the Emerald Art Center.

The mural will be approximately 20 ft x 6 ft, sized to fit on the outside gym wall. It will be created inside on plywood panels, then mounted outside.

Capelo will also be speaking at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art's Day of the Dead celebration on November 5 at 6 p.m. before returning to Mexico.

think local

so lets get this straight, there are no local artist we have to get some one from mexico to paint a mural on a wall.we couldnt find a US citizen to do this with our tax dollars.we need to ship our tax dollars to mexico so there are no unemployed oregon artist right now.this is why we need to continue to cut funding to the schools because they are not learning.
