Oregon Teacher of the Year at Camas Ridge

By Heather Hintze

EUGENE, Ore. -- A Eugene teacher is $5,000 richer after winning one of the state's highest honors.

At an impromptu assembly in front of her students and her daughter Kaitlyn, Camas Ridge fourth and fifth grade teacher, Donna DuBois, learned she is the Oregon Teacher of the Year. State Superintendent Susan Castillo honored DuBois for her efforts in and out of the classroom.

She's has been a teacher for 12 years, and says her greatest joy is when children get excited to learn. DuBois says she's thrilled to win the honor, but that teaching is a team effort.

The Intel Corporation sponsors the program and gave DuBois a check for $5,000. DuBois says she's not exactly sure what she'll do with the money, but she hopes to put some of it toward her Light it Forward project, which students give away CFL light bulbs and teach the community to be more environmentally responsible.
