The Big Business of Weddings

By Holly Menino

For many brides-to-be, getting married is no easy task. It can be time-consuming, stressful and expensive. Experts say the wedding industry is a $72 billion industry, with an average of 2.2 million couples getting hitched every year. A recent survey found that the average bride spends about $29,000 on her wedding, with roughly half of it going towards the reception.

Experts say wedding spending has slowed down during the recession. Couples that are getting married in these tough economic times say they're choosing to spend more money on the things that are more important to them.
