Hot Weather Means More Opportunities for Burglars

EUGENE, Ore.--  Eugene Police officers say when the temperature rises, so do the chances of a burglar breaking into your house.

Many people leave their windows open at night to cool down their homes, but crime prevention specialists say that's an invitation for thieves to break into your house.

Officers recommend locking windows at night.  If you have to leave your windows open, make sure each one has a screen on it, or put noise makers in front of the window to alert you if someone is trying to break in.

Also, make sure air conditioners and fans are secure and attached to the window frame.  Otherwise burglars can just push them out, and climb right into your house.
