Coquille, Ore---
Coos County Commissioners reached their final decision on the Jordan Cove Energy Project, they've decided to adopt the application to build the liquefied Natural Gas Terminal on the North Spit of Coos Bay with 18 conditions.
Today Commissioners met to review the revised conditions set in last week's hearing. One of the biggest changes to the conditions was on a proposed non-interrupted emergency access road.
Commissioners agreed that wasn't possible with the railroad running parallel to the plant, so the condition was changed.
Instead they've agreed to make all emergency services on the same side of the railroad tracks as the LNG plant to ensure maximum safety for employees and the community.
Commissioners say they are happy with all 18 conditions, and hope they hold up in the final application.
"Congress intentionally allowed state and local decision making, so whether our conditions are important or not, or whether it will survive what FERC will do to it, we dont know. I wanted all of these conditions attached to the land use process because that might be the only place we have a chance," said Commissioner John Griffith.
Most other modifications to the conditions were simple verbiage changes. Commissioners say they want to make sure the conditions are as specific as possible to prevent confusion and possible discrepancies in the future. The application to build the terminal is not finished though, Commissioners still need to adopt the findings of fact, and draft up an official order that will announce all of the final conditions and edits agreed upon in the application.
