RRR BLACKLE

There are so many computers out there. If we could use a little less energy on each, it could really add up. That is the idea behind Blackle.

A couple of mouse clicks on Google will get you to Blackle, where the claim of energy savings based on a dark screen overa  light screen are impressive, and true, if you have the old style CRT monitor.

When they are emmiting white, it takes more energy than when the screen is dark.

This is not true with a flat screen. They let the energy in like a venetian blind, so dark or light, they use the same amount of energy.

Blackle does have a nice list of energy saving ideas for your home life and computer. By going into energy saving mode, you can choose how long there will be no activity before it shuts off.  Move the mouse, or type, and it turns back on again.

The heat from computers can be used for good too. You can use the heat to dry your peppers.

And don't forget the easiest way to save energy on your monitor; the power button.

I know it is not much, but using Blackle, putting your computer on sleep mode, and printing on both sides of the paper, all add up to something big if we all participate.
