SALEM, Ore. -- Oregon Emergency Management in conjunction with the Oregon Military Department and the Governor's Office will sponsor the Northwest Workshop on Communications (NOW Conference), at Camp Rilea, October 28th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The purpose of the event is to streamline communication between emergency personnel and familiarize participants with what resources are available during crisis situations.
The Oregon Wireless Interoperability Network, Ares/Ham Radio and 911 Advocates are just a few of the participants who will be on hand to discuss long term plans for the potential of an upcoming severe weather season.

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a Saturday night single vehicle fatal traffic crash that resulted in the death of two people and injuries to two others along Highway 42 miles east of Tenmile in Douglas County. The vehicle occupants are from Oregon and Minnesota. Names are being released following confirmation of next of kin notification.
According to OSP Sergeant Steve Mitchell, on October 24, 2009 at approximately 9:35 p.m. a 2007 Chevrolet Impala four door driven by JASON E. WIESS, age 37, from Tenmile, Oregon was westbound on Highway 42 near milepost 68 when he lost control attempting to negotiate a curve at a high rate of speed. The car rolled several times before coming to a rest in a field on the north side of the highway.
JASON WIESS was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg where he died after arrival.
Right rear passenger KAREN K. POURRIER, age 44, from Fergus Falls, Minnesota was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.
Right front passenger, SHANNON SMITH, age 32, was transported by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
Left rear passenger, MICHA WIESS, age 44, from Erhard, Minnesota was ejected and critally injured. He was initially transpoted to Mercy Medical Center and later transferred by air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland.
Safety restraint use information is not available.
OSP troopers from the Roseburg Area Command office are continuing the investigation. Alcohol and speed are contributing factors.

The 37-year old male driver died after being transported to Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg.
A 44-year old female passenger was deceased at the scene.
A 32-year old female passenger and 44-year old male passenger were injured.

Two troopers working out of The Dalles area command received minor injuries today when the driver of a mini van fell asleep and veered off of the road striking the parked patrol car.
On 10-24-09 two troopers were parked in the center median area of Interstate 84 near the mouth of the Deschutes River. The 2008 Dodge Charger patrol car was facing north in a gravel emergency turn around area while the troopers monitored eastbound traffic.
At 2:24 PM, a Nissan Quest van, operated by LITH TUY, age 35 of Salem, was westbound on Interstate 84 when TUY fell asleep. The van veered left and onto the center median. It became airborne when it hit the graveled turn around area. The van then struck the right rear of the patrol car with its right front fender area. The van came to rest facing eastbound traffic on the shoulder.
The operator of the patrol car was Senior Trooper ANDREW VANDERWERF, age 40. His passenger was Recruit Trooper KENT ARBON, age 24.
The operator's aunt and uncle were passengers in the van. They were SORN ROS, age 57, and CHHAN ROS, age 54, both of Salem.
All occupants of both vehicles were transported, via ambulance, to Mid Columbia Medical Center in The Dalles. All were released after treatment.
LITH TUY was cited and released for Reckless Driving.
Oregon State Police was assisted at the scene by deputies from the Sherman County Sheriff's Office.

OSP troopers investigating Saturday morning's fatal crash located next of kin in the St. Helens area. Additional information indicates the victim and male whose full name is not known stayed in the area for about a week and were enroute to an unknown destination from Alaska. Anyone with information to assist with this investigation is asked to contact OSP as listed below.

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers, with the assistance of Linn County Sheriff's Office, are continuing an investigation into a fatal traffic crash Saturday morning on Highway 34 about 100 yards west of Interstate 5 involving a female victim who ran out onto the highway. Investigators are seeking any witnesses who may have been at a nearby gas station and saw a possible disturbance involving a woman and a man in a blue 1995 Mercury Mystique four-door displaying Nevada license 280 VTX. That vehicle may have been associated with this investigation.
Preliminary information from OSP Sergeant Craig Flierl indicates on October 24, 2009 before 6:00 a.m. OSP troopers and Linn County deputies were responding to a reported disturbance at a Chevron gas station on north side of Highway 34 west of Interstate 5. The information was that an unknown male in the blue 1995 Mercury four-door was involved in a disturbance with a female.
At approximately 6:05 a.m. a report was received of an injury crash involving a pickup and a female in the westbound lanes of Highway 34 west of Interstate 5. Officers and Albany Fire Department personnel responded and found a critically injured 42-year old woman in the highway. BRADFORD was transported by ambulance to Albany General Hospital where she died about two hours later.
The victim reportedly ran from the area of an Arco gas station on the south side of Highway 34 into the westbound lanes where she was struck in the left lane by a westbound 1998 Dodge Dakota pickup driven by WILLIAM BLAKE, age 68, from Lebanon. BLAKE was using safety restraints and was not injured.
The vehicle of interest was not at the scene when emergency responders arrived and left in an unknown direction.
Anyone who may have witnessed the reported disturbance at the Chevron gas station or with information about the vehicle of interest is asked to call OSP Northern Command Center dispatch at (800) 452-7888.

Tillamook County District Attorney William Porter has authorized the release of the name of a man who died after being shot by Tillamook County sheriff deputies Friday afternoon in Garibaldi.
The man is identified as MICHAEL ELMO SHEPHERD, age 68. SHEPHERD has no known address and next of kin were located and notified with the help of a chaplain in Clark County, Washington. No photograph available for this release.

On October 23, 2009, at about 12:42 p.m., Tillamook County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a call of a male subject breaking into a motor home at 303 6th Street, Garibaldi, Oregon.
Two Deputies arrived on the scene and contacted the suspect, who approached them with a raised hatchet. The suspect advanced and refused commands to stop, continuing toward the Deputies. The suspect was shot and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Deputies involved are on paid administrative leave, which is common practice in officer involved shootings.
The investigation is being conducted by the Tillamook County Major Crimes Team, which consists of the Tillamook Co. Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police, Tillamook Police Dept., Rockaway Beach Police Dept., Manzanita Dept. of Public Safety, and the Tillamook County District Attorney's Office.
