Florence, Ore.-- A whale washes ashore on Devil's Elbow Beach, and just 2 days later, its gone. Monday afternoon crews began the excavation process, digging an 11 foot deep hole in the sand. They then dragged and gently rolled the juvenile male Fin whale into the hole and buried it late Monday evening. Experts say they chose to barry the whale because it was the easiest and most natural option.
