Facts Need To Be Right.
With regards to this story, I have 2 comments to make. First, at the end of this report it is said that Hynix is closing 3 of its 5 200mm plants. What we have heard, we being the employee's have heard is that all but one of these plants are being closed. The 8 inch fabs are simply to old school in todays market. The majority of the market is now going with the 300mm fabs, that is what we have been told anyway.
My second comment is this, the reason we are all hesitant to speak with the media is because we are all afraid of possible reprisals. When we have our last day, which is actually in about 13 days now, not the September date thats is being reported, we have been told we will receive our paychecks plus 2 months base pay plus a yet to be defined severance package. For the last 6 to 9 months, Hynix has been slowly weeding out people. By that I mean walking people off the property for the tiniest of infractions. Some of us that have years and years in with this place have been dismissed for something as small as being 5 minuets late in coming back from break. Little things like that.
My point is that we are afraid of what might happen if we should show our selves on camera and say something that Hynix didn't like, we might as well kiss that severance package good bye. That is why very few if any of us are going to talk about this until it's done. By then this will be a no news story, but oh well.
Mood in the fab is very somber if you really want to know. Most of us are really sad about leaving Hynix. When everything is said and done, Hynix has been a great job and a great company to work for. They really did go above and beyond to protect the environment. They have gone above and beyond as far as taking care of us as well. Yes there are people here that think Hynix sucks. There are people glad to see it go. There are people here that worked here for the pay and the benefits. I think for the most part though the vast majority of us worked here because we like it, we liked the job, the work environment, the company, and everything else that went with being here. We got paid very well and only worked 1/2 a month for it. (3 days 1 week, 4 the next, 12 hour shifts)
Hynix is going to be missed and its leaving is going to blow a very big hole in the economy of the county. It is going to take a while for everyone to recover from this and things being as they are, it's going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.
