EUGENE, Ore. -- If you were a victim of last week's storm, Lane County Waste Management wants to remind you to be careful when cleaning up your property this weekend.
Experts say common household chemicals like paint, cleaners and pesticides can be hazardous to human health and the environment when not disposed of properly.
When there's a flood, the containers those chemicals are in can get damaged and leak or even mix with different chemicals.
"Those things can get out and get mixed up. They can get washed away back into the river. So we want to make sure we contain those things and keep them separate and handle them appropriately before they become a problem," said Waste Management Superintendent Jeff Bishop.
So if you're not sure what you're throwing away or how to get rid of something the right way, Lane County Waste Management can help.
