EUGENE, Ore. -- The Oregon Liquor Control Commission is used to seeing fake IDs in use around Eugene, but they say they've seen a spike in the last few weeks.
OLCC is always on the lookout for fake identification, and in the last few weeks, they've received more than 100 fake IDs, which is way more than they're used to.
"Generally, over the course of two weeks I might see 60," said OLCC investigator Mark Jeanig.
Jeanig says this lot is almost double that and they're all from the Eugene area.
"Two of the liquor stores turned in 50 or 60 IDs each, so, definite upswing in the fake IDs," Jeanig said.
The IDs are from a variety of states. The most popular in this group are California, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Arizona.
But states' popularity are always changing.
One big difference in this group is that they're all manufactured fake IDs with the minor's picture and information.
The OLCC says usually it sees authentic IDs that people give to minor who look similar to their license picture.
"We think we have a lead on who's manufacturing them, and we'll continue to follow up with our investigation on that," Jeanig said.
OLCC says with the recent spike in fake IDs, they'll be keeping an even closer eye on local bars, restaurants, and liquor stores.
