HALSEY, Ore. -- Tree experts say it's important for homeowners to check for warning signs to see if a tree is succeptible to a storm.
Ben Macauley of Highland Tree Service says if there is deadwood or an unusual amount of limbs falling, that's a good sign that the tree is weak and going to die.
He also says to look for moss taking over the tree. That means the tree has lost its ability to take care of itself.
But Macauley says sometimes if the storm's strong enough, any tree could be a victim.
"A tree doesn't have a real good root system and set up for the wind like that it could take a perfectly healthy tree if it's a big enough gust, just take the tree right over, and so you could take all the proper precautions and knowing it's a healthy tree," Macauley said.
Macauley says homeowners also need to make sure not cover the roots of the tree except for a wood mulch.
