Storefront Art Project Grows

By Dan Corcoran

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. -- The city of Springfield is taking a cue from Eugene when it comes to revitalizing downtown by putting up local artwork in vacant store fronts.

Springfield will now have two different art installations on Main Street.  Organizers say these pop-up galleries give artists a place to show off their work, but they also make vacant properties more appealing to up-and-coming store owners.

"Someone could be walking by the building thinking about a potential business.  They look into that building and they see that building has possibilities with a lot of feasibility to it," said Storefront Art Project Officer Peter Herley.

One of the installations will be in the NEDCO building on 1st and Main and the other in Bright Oak Meats on 6th and Main.

Founders hope to add more art in Springfield, Eugene, and Junction City.
