UO Squad Cars Vandalized

By Gia Vang

EUGENE, Ore. -- They're use to responding to crimes, but the University of Oregon's Department of Public Safety (DPS) fell victim itself.

Several of its patrol cars were vandalized sometime Friday or early Saturday morning.

A cracked open watermelon was left all over the ground, and smeared over several cars. Also, a nearby trash can was also tipped over, spilling it's contents out onto the road.

Witnesses tell KEZI a full bench was thrown on one car, busting a window and denting the exterior of some cars. Officers removed those cars before KEZI arrived.

It happend near some dorms. One student, Sultan Al-Khalif, said he heard two loud bangs, but he didn't know what it was until Saturday morning.

"Actually, I'm surprised about this news. I think it's very bad. I don't know what kind of message they're trying to send to the safety."

A DPS sargeant says they could not comment on the incident.
