Green Tours Kick Off Saturday In Eugene

By Paris Jackson

EUGENE, Ore. -- Many Eugene neighborhoods are reducing their carbon footprint by choosing eco-friendly living practices.  Organizers say when neighbors come together great ideas blossom.

A Eugene committee on sustainablilty has coordinated green home tours in several neighborhoods. This is the third year of this event.  Community gardens have a unifying concept which will be featured on the tour along with other green trends.  Organizers said each neighborhood is an example of people making better choices to reduce their carbon foot print.

Bike Tour Coordinator Doug Black said, "It's just always worked out well and people have always come away very informed."

"There will be such a wealth of information and passion and interest in every single neighborhood. And every neighborhood is unique in what they have to offer," said Common Ground Garden Co-Founder Anne Donahue.

The tour will also feature ways to keep chickens and beehives at your home.  Other topics include, using permaculture, rainwater catchment systems and solar design.  The tour meets Saturday morning at 11 in the River Road neighborhood at Rosetta Park.
