A new home for Redmond's City Hall, could be just a few streets away, in one of the city's historic landmarks.
A local developers is in talks with the Redmond School District to purchase Evergreen Elementary School, that will sit empty at the end of the school year.
The plan would then be for the developer to refurbish the building to meet the City's needs and rent them the space.
A new city hall costing nearly 8 million dollars was put on hold as the city budgeted for tough economic times starting in 2008.
"So the money the had already put aside to build a new City Hall, a savings account if you will then that money pays the rent on this building," says Redmond Mayor George Endicott.
No paperwork or agreements have been signed, this being the first offer the school district has received on the elementary school building.
City hall is currently just a few blocks away. Mayor Endicott saying the move would be convenient and allow City Hall to stay in downtown Redmond.

Why
Why doesn`t the city just buy the building ? The school district could use the money and the city could save money ?
