BROOKINGS, Ore. - A four-year-old Brookings girl who was found alive Thursday night after spending 30 hours in the woods is in fair condition at a Portland hospital.
Rescuers say Zoey crawled under thick brush at the bottom of a canyon about two to three miles from her home. Three volunteer searchers found her suffering from hypothermia, with a core body temperature of 83 degrees, and barely conscious.
"She was very delirious. She was hypothermic, in shock, and scratched up pretty good," said independent Volunteer Rescuer Robert Crump, who found Zoey.
A Coast Guard helicopter crew took her off the mountain and transported her to Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City. She was taken to a Portland hospital Friday.
Dorsey was reported missing from her residence at the top of Mountain Drive in Brookings at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Helicopters, ground crews and scent dogs were used in the search. Search and rescue teams from Josephine, Jackson, Coos, Del Norte and Klamath counties, along with the Oregon Air National Guard and Oregon State Police, assisted.
