JUNCTION CITY, Ore. -- Four people are rushed to the hospital after two cars collided on Highway 99 near Junction City. One of those victims is an 9-month-old boy who sustained critical injuries.
Oregon State Police troopers say that particular intersection has seen more than it's fair share of collisions. Friday morning, they could add another crash to that list.
Troopers say a black Volkswagen Jetta driven by 20-year-old Cody Jackson of Springfield was struck on its passenger side by a GMC box truck. With Jackson while crossing Highway 99 at Milliron Road was his 9-month old son, Eli. Both were rushed to the hospital with critical injuries.
Inside the truck, a husband and wife from Pleasant Hill, Kevin and Brenda Johnson, were hospitalized for minor injuries.
The crash investigation continues, but OSP says Johnson's Volkswagen may may have missed a stop sign where Milliron road meets Highway 99.
"Just looking at the damage back here it's safe to assume that everyone involved needed to be at least observed and checked out. It does make it tough sometimes," said Sr. Trooper Rick Hamilton.
The 9-month-old victim was transported from Sacred Heart Medical Center to a Portland hospital for his injuries.
One lane of northbound Highway 99 was closed for about four hours while a reconstruction team investigated the crash. OSP says this intersection has had a number of serious collisions over the past few years, many with drivers running a stop sign.
A fund has been set up to help pay for the medical expenses of Cody and Eli Jackson. You can donate at any Oregon Community Credit Union location by making a check out to the "Cody and Eli Jackson Fund."
