Flying High or Hitting the Road for Spring Break?

By Paris Jackson

EUGENE, Ore. -- For many families and students Friday is the start of spring break. Which means many will be boarding a plane, getting in a car, or staying right at home.

AAA travel experts said people will flock to hot spots, like Seattle and Vancouver British Columbia because of the Winter Olympics. Some popular getaways in Oregon include the central and eastern part of the state as well as the coast and Medford.

Travel experts said because spring break is just one week, it's likely flights are limited compared to major holidays. AAA suggests you consultant with a travel agent for a flight, but whatever you do have a plan.

"Most of the people have already made their plans, so those that haven't are choosing to drive instead of stay home, which is always a fun thing to do," said Regional Manager AAA Oregon Barbara Nichols.

Because of the recent violence in Mexico and along the U.S. border, spring breakers are advised to be careful if traveling out of the country and urged to check the state department's website for travel warnings.
