MEDFORD, Ore. -- Mailboxes across the country are filling up with census forms.
The census consists of 10 questions, including name, age, sex, race and phone number. All information collected in the census is used to draw Congressional districts within each state and allocate federal money.
Census workers say that for every person who does not fill out the form, the city you live in will lose about $14,000 a year.
It is required by law for everyone to fill out the census, which is why the government sends out a mailing just to warn people the census is coming.
Census workers will go door to door up to six times to homes that do not fill out the form. If you do not fill it out you could be faced with a $5,000 fine. However, census workers admit the fine is not usually enforced.
