EUGENE, Ore.-- The trial for the man at the center of a parking meter controversy starts Thursday. Ben Bond is accused of obstructing justice.
The trial will be held inside the City Council Chamber and not inside a Municipal Courtroom. Presiding Mucipial Court Judge Wayne Allen has granted the media access, due in part to the public's interest in the case, all of which requires a larger space.
It's a case that's garnered a lot of attention the City of Eugene vs. Ben Bond. On Thursday morning, Judge Allen will decide if Bond is guilty or innocent of the charge of obstructing justice.
He faces that charge after an incident that started with him plugging other people's parking meters back in January . The city prosecutor said Bond kept a city employee from doing her job by means of intimidation.
But the specific part of the law Bond broke is unclear. The trial will get underway at 9 a.m.
