BROOKINGS, Ore. -- A four-year-old Brookings girl that had been missing for over 24 hours was found alive Thursday night.
Curry County Sheriff John Bishop says that Zoey Dorsey is in stable condition at a Crescent City hospital and is expected to recover.
Bishop says Dorsey had wandered about two to three miles from her home. An independent searcher found her in some brush. She was going in and out of consciousness. Bishop says Dorsey was suffering from hypothermia, with a core temperature of 85 degrees.
A Coast Guard helicopter airlifted her to a safe area and eventually to the Sutter Coast Hospital in Crescent City. Her family is with her as doctors try to evaluate her condition, and will keep her in the hospital overnight.
Dorsey was reported missing from her residence at the top of Mountain Drive in Brookings at approximately 3 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Helicopters, ground crews and scent dogs were used in the search. Search and rescue teams from Josephine, Jackson, Coos, Del Norte and Klamath counties, along with the Oregon Air National Guard and Oregon State Police, assisted.
