OSU Students React to Recent Duck Behavior

By Susan Gager

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- All the Duck drama hasn't escaped students at rival schools in the Pac-10, especially the University of Oregon's biggest rival.

The UO football team's troubles with the law are piling up. Students at Oregon State University are wondering what's in the watercooler over there.

"If you're in the public eye you should keep a low profile," said OSU student Jacob Hawk.

It's the offseason, but UO football players can't seem to escape public scrutiny. "LaGarette Blount, LaMichael James, I know there was a guy who got a DUI. Oh yeah there was a guy who got a DUI," said students Riley Miller and Nick Sherwood.

The list goes on. Four arrests have been made since the start of the year along with rumors about brawls, assault, theft and team rule violations.

"I think they just get caught up in like being famous in their campus and they think they can do whatever they want, and it's not right," said student Randy Frey.

One OSU student suggests football players in Corvallis don't run into the same sort of situations because Corvallis isn't exactly an urban setting.

Some say it's up to the coach to keep the players in line, but other students argue it's ultimately the players' responsibility to behave themselves.

These players' lives are under a magnifying glass right now. It really boils down to the next football season, and whether these players can stay out of trouble so they get themselves back on the field again.

That's Rich!

OSU students are reacting? I'd say it probably more like a field day or even Mardi Gras in Corvallis! Not that their record on character is flawless.
